Semaine sans pesticides

2025

This year, the campaign came up with something truly special – a quiz competition!
Participants had to answer challenging questions about pesticides and had the chance to win great prizes sponsored by the campaign’s many partners.
The quiz was available both online and in person, at the Seed Exchange in Beefort and the “Maart um Haff” event at the Misärshaff.
In total, more than 90 people took part in the contest – a great success!

2024

This year, the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign took on the most widely used pesticide glyphosate during the international ‘Pesticide Action Week’. On 16 November 2023, the vote to ban glyphosate in the European Parliament did not result in a majority, meaning that the controversial pesticide will remain authorised in the EU for another 10 years. The campaign deeply regrets this decision and has written an open letter to Mrs Martine Hansen, Minister for Agriculture (available in the ‘Useful information’ section). In this letter, the campaign reminds the government of the commitments set out in the 2023-2028 coalition agreement on the sustainable use of plant protection products and the gradual elimination of glyphosate.

The international ‘Pesticide Action Week’ from 20 to 30 March saw the start of a small series of tutorials on Facebook: ‘My terrace garden - Mäi Gaart op der Terrass’ - Ouni Pestiziden! You can find all 10 tutorials here: My terrace garden

2021

For the international ‘Week Without Pesticides’ from 20 to 30 March, something new was posted on Facebook every day: Tutorials on the alternatives to pesticides in everyday life and other great activities.

2019

This year's theme was ‘Pesticides and Biodiversity’. In order to sensitise children to the topic of pesticides and biodiversity, and to give schools and other educational structures an opportunity to explain this topic, a creative competition was organised on the topic of ‘Biodiversity at home’ for children of primary school age.

2018

To mark the ‘semaine sans pesticides’, the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign had a stand at the ‘Waasserfest’ on 18 March 2018. We provided information about agricultural alternatives in the water protection area, flowers without pesticides and biocides in the home. Miscanthus.lu and SES were represented at the stand as partners. At the stand, visitors found products produced from agricultural crops in water protection areas: Ramborn cider from meadow orchards, linseed oil from Robinaus Leinkulturen, miscanthus mulch and hemp insulation mats.

2017

On Saturday, 25 March 2017, the ‘Pesticide-free’ day took place in Junglinster, organised by the municipality of Junglinster and its Nature and Environment Commission in collaboration with the ‘Pesticide-free’ campaign. In the presence of the Minister for the Environment, Mrs Carole Dieschbourg, the day was ceremoniously opened early in the morning with a conference on the subject of pesticides. Afterwards, visitors were able to find out about current projects, campaigns, partner organisations of the campaign or simply about pesticides and their alternatives at the various information stands in bright sunshine.

Children also got their money's worth thanks to the Super Spill Mobile and face painting. There were also educational workshops on organic gardening, preparing healthy smoothies and using medicinal herbs. Thanks to a show cooking event, visitors were also able to savour delicious vegetarian dishes or buy fresh food at the local market that took place at the same time. On Friday, the artist and environmental expert Fred Jomaux from Belgium had already invited visitors to the Junglinster Cultural Centre for his unusual play ‘Graines de voyous’ and presented his view of pesticides in his own humorous way. All in all, it was a successful main event to mark the international ‘Week without Pesticides’, which informs citizens in 30 countries about pesticides every year.

2016

The ‘semaine sans pesticides’ took place for the seventh time from 20 to 30 March. As always, a press conference was held to kick off the week. This year, the municipality of Betzdorf, which has not used pesticides since 2007 and was therefore the first municipality in Luxembourg to implement this measure, was the host. Now, the renunciation of pesticides should also play a role at the beginning of the production chain. Pesticide-free flowers and plants will soon be available in retail outlets. With the ‘personal’ support of Environment Minister Carole Dieschbourg, the first pesticide-free plants were planted together with the official producers.
