Week without Pesticides

Every year from 20 to 30 March, the international ‘Week Without Pesticides’ takes place. The aim of this campaign week is to raise awareness of the dangers of pesticides and to highlight sustainable alternatives. The campaign has been actively participating in this initiative since 2015. Let's liberate Diversity

04.-06.09.2025 | LTA Diekirch

From 4 to 6 September, the international ‘Let's Liberate Diversity!’ event took place at the Luxembourg School of Agriculture. The annual ‘Let's Liberate Diversity!’ forum is aimed at the general public, citizens and experts. Its goal is to promote exchange between different countries and raise awareness of the importance of crop diversity.

Transition Days

28.-30.06.2024 | Schluechthaus

At the invitation of CELL (Citizens for Ecological Learning & Living asbl), the campaign took part in the Transition Days 2024. The event brought together numerous stakeholders from various sectors and offered workshops, lectures and panel discussions. EBL (Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg) was represented with a stand and presented other projects in addition to the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign. A painting workshop was organised for children where, after the painting had dried, seeds of native flowers were stuck on it so that they could plant it at home.

Citizens' forum

15.06.2024 | Steinfort

On 15 June 2024, the municipality of Steinfort invited the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign to its citizens' forum. The topic was the promotion of biodiversity in urban and public spaces. After a brief introduction about the importance and possibilities of designing public spaces in a natural way, a workshop was organised in which the participants were able to design a public space themselves. They were given a piece of cardboard which they could stick various natural materials on to create a nature-orientated area in the urban space. The campaign was represented with an information stand and also took part in the workshop.

14.-15.10.2023 | Sanem

The campaign was represented with a stand for the first time at the Matgesfest in Sanem. The location and the ‘Gutt Geschier’ project were officially launched at the festival.

Climate Day

12.11.2019 | VDL

On 12 November 2019, the "Klimabündnis" organised the fifth "Klimadag" (Climate Day) in the Rotonden. The programme included information stands from municipalities and ONGs, conferences, discussions, film screenings and the Klimabündnis plenary session with representatives of the Peoples Climate Case as invited guests. The EBL (Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg) was represented with a stand where various projects were presented.

Mam Emil op de Natur- an Ëmweltdag

16.03.2019 | Hesperange

On 16 March 2019, the municipality of Hesperange held its Nature and Environment Day with Emil. Emil stands for: Emwelt (environment), Mobilitéit (mobility), Interactive and Local. After the ‘spring clean’, the municipality organised lunch and a series of workshops and exhibitions. The Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg was present with a stand for the campaign ‘Ouni Pestiziden’. A painting workshop was organised for the children: The children glued seeds of native wild flowers on their self-painted pictures to place the pictures in nature afterwards, where the seeds can germinate.

Birdwatchday

06.10.2018 | Remerschen

The ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign was represented at the Birdwatchday in the Biodiversum on 6 October 2018. Many visitors took advantage of the beautiful weather and took part in the various activities around the quarry ponds in Remerschen.

16.09.2018 | Stolzemburg

For the first time, the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign was represented at the plant fair in Stolzemburg on the weekend of 15 and 16 September 2018. In beautiful late summer weather, visitors were able to find out about a pesticide-free garden and a biocide-free household. The seeds for a wildflower meadow packaged by Bieschbecher Atelier from Rollingen were for sale. Interested parties were given detailed instructions on how to create and maintain such a meadow. We offered pesticide-free flowers: Pansies produced by Gäertnerei Binsfeld from Erpeldange and perennials produced by Sylvie Schmit from Kapenaker. The Our Nature Park, which is also a partner of the campaign, was our stand neighbour.

Rose festival

22.09.2018 | Munsbach

The ‘Lëtzebuerger Rousefrënn’ invited the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign to their first "Rousefest" (Rose Festival) in the park of Munsbach Castle on Saturday, 22 September 2018. The stands were arranged around the ‘Roseraie Chateau de Munsbach’, where all the old and new Luxembourg roses are planted. At the beginning of the day, a rose christening ceremony with Prime Minister Xavier Bettel was on the agenda. Visitors were able to find out more about the pesticide-free rose garden. The seed packets for a wildflower meadow were in great demand, as now is the time to plant them. The miscanthus mulch, a product from pesticide-free agriculture, which is perfect as mulch for communal areas, private gardens and even rose beds, attracted a lot of interest. The Binsfeld nursery, with its pesticide-free perennials, grasses and pansies, was a neighbouring stand.

08.-10.07.2018 | Sanem

Ambiance & Jardins' meets “Marché Solidaire”: Summerfeeling from 8-10 June 2018 in Sanem. At a joint stand with ‘Heck vun hei’, ‘Miscanthus.lu’ and ‘CTF Sanem’, visitors were able to find out about pesticide-free gardening, wildflower meadows and pesticide-free households. Geraniums and petunias grown pesticide-free by the Forum pour l'Emploi were on sale. Visitors were able to purchase seeds for a wildflower meadow packaged by the Bieschbecher Atelier from Rollingen.

At the invitation of ‘Gaart an Heem Ouljen’ and the ‘Ouljer Musek’, the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign was represented at the traditional "Ouljer Blummemaart" (Flower market Olingen) on 6 May 2018. We informed visitors about pesticide-free gardening, the problem of the current trend towards gravel gardens and wildflower meadows. At the stand, visitors could find perennials and young vegetable plants from pesticide-free cultivation. Visitors could also buy seeds from controlled sources for a native wildflower meadow. Innoplantes from Kapenaker (plants) and Bieschbecher Atelier from Rollingen (wildflower seeds) were also represented at the stand. Many thanks to our student Tamy, who provided active support.

Seminar mulching, insulating, building

On 2 February 2018, EBL organised a seminar together with SES. The topic was: Products that are produced regionally in source and water protection areas and offer interesting application possibilities for municipalities. By sourcing these products regionally, the municipality can promote the development of a regional circular economy and thus collect Climate Pact points. It also makes an active contribution to spring and water protection. Does your municipality have springs, wells or water protection areas? By cultivating these alternative crops, their quality can be maintained or improved.

Information evening

18.05.2017 | Schifflange

On 18 May 2017, the municipality of Schifflange hosted an information evening on the topic of ‘Working without pesticides’. Employees from EBL, the coordinator of the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign, provided information about the risks of pesticides and gave tips on pesticide-free gardening.

08.07.2016 | Nommern

The municipality of Nommern, together with the local environmental commission, organised an information evening on the subject of pesticides. In addition to a representative of the crop protection service of the arable farming administration, there was also a presentation by EBL and the Mëllerdall Nature Park about the campaign and the assistance and projects on offer.

Information evening

21.07.2016 | Junglinster

On Thursday, 21 July 2016, Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg visited the nature and environment commission of the municipality of Junglinster on behalf of the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign. A short presentation on the topic and the challenges posed by the legal ban on pesticides on public land was followed by an interesting exchange on possible actions and ideas. The municipality of Junglinster is actively looking for solutions on how to bring the changeover in the municipality to the citizens and how residents can also be sensitised to the issue so that pesticides are no longer used on private land in the future. The national campaign welcomes such initiatives and is happy to support them.

25.05.2016 | Beringen

Following the great success of Demo Day 2014, Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg once again called for an exchange between municipalities this year as part of the ‘Ouni Pestiziden’ campaign. This is because the law of 19 December 2014, which bans the use of pesticides on public land from 1 January 2016, makes alternative weed removal methods highly topical. The programme included short theoretical and practical presentations on the topic of avoiding pesticides and alternative care methods. Afterwards, the participants were able to find out about the various techniques from several companies on site and inspect the machines they had brought with them. Afterwards, the participants were able to engage in an extensive dialogue over lunch. The 2016 Demo Day was once again a complete success: 80 participants from 28 different municipalities, syndicates and institutions were present in Beringen/Mersch.

Plan Pollinisateur

Due to the alarming decline in the abundance and diversity of pollinating insects in Europe and worldwide, the government announces the launch of a specific action programme to promote measures to protect pollinating insects on Luxembourg territory.

The disappearance of pollinators is a devastating phenomenon both for our food security and for the preservation of our natural ecosystems and must be stopped. Due to the multiple and complex causes of the massive insect extinction, the national action plan can only be the result of a comprehensive dialogue. The action plan will mainly focus on the implementation of concrete measures in several action areas - agricultural environment, urban environment, pesticides and other pollutants, light pollution, climate change, diseases and invasive alien species.

Three pillars should be emphasised here:

Measures to improve our knowledge of pollinators and pollination performance in Luxembourg;
Concrete and practical measures to combat the main causes of insect mortality and to improve their living conditions in Luxembourg;
Measures to raise awareness, involve society and promote cooperation between the actors involved.

Neophytes

As part of the awareness-raising efforts of Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg (EBL), the brochure "Invasive Neophytes and Their Alternatives" was created. Neophytes are plants that are introduced to an area by humans (directly or indirectly) and are not native to that region. Invasive neophytes are non-native plants that survive and spread extensively in the new area. In doing so, they displace native plant species and harm the entire ecosystem.

B&B Action Week

2023

This year, the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development and its partners organised the Pollinator Action Weeks in Luxembourg for the second time. The event is part of the national action plan for pollinating insects published by the government at the end of 2021 and offers an excellent opportunity to discover the fascinating world of pollinating insects during excursions and workshops and to learn how to protect and promote them. In this second edition, we put the spotlight on the partners who support our pollinators and whose projects are funded by our Ministry through the Environmental Protection Fund. Projects submitted as part of the ‘Pollinisateurs’ (pollinators) call for projects launched by our Ministry in 2022 are presented, as well as the major project of nature parks to promote insects.

The Ministry of the Environment, Climate, and Sustainable Development invited all nature lovers to the very first edition of the Pollinator Weeks, called the "B&B Action Weeks." From May 21 to June 5, 2022, a variety of activities for the whole family were offered throughout the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to explore the fascinating world of pollinating insects and learn how to help them survive and thrive in our gardens or other green spaces. The campaign is conducted as part of the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Pollinating Insects and in collaboration with the following expert partners: Administration de la nature et des forêts, Beetogether, Ëmweltberodung Lëtzebuerg ASBL, Musée national d'histoire naturelle, natur&ëmwelt, Parc naturel de la Haute-Sûre, Parc naturel de l'Our, Parc naturel du Mullerthal, SIAS, and SICONA.

B&B Action Weeks

Nature pact

The state aims to provide municipalities with a legislative, financial, technical, and advisory framework through the Naturpakt from 2021 to December 31, 2030, to facilitate targeted action in nature conservation and combating biodiversity loss.

The Naturpakt is intended to promote commitment to nature conservation at the municipal level, enabling communities to contribute to achieving the goals of the:

Strategy for Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change (ecological component)
